Food Trucks Now Allowed In Farmington
The Farmington Plan and Zoning Commission has approved amendment regulations permitting food trucks in certain zones.
FARMINGTON, CT — The town has now said "yes" to new regulations that allow food truck operators in town, opening up the town to more diverse culinary options.
With food trucks an increasingly popular dining option for many, the Farmington Plan and Zoning Commission has now tweaked its regulations to allow them.
The PZC unanimously voted Feb. 24 in favor of a text amendment to existing zoning regulations permitting the culinary vehicles at permitted sites in town, namely commercial and industrial zones.

Farmington Assistant Town Planner Garrett Daigle presented the proposal to the PZC at the meeting before the vote.
He said a peddler's license would be required from the Farmington Police Department, along with registration forms and a valid health department permit.

Garrett said, under the regulations, food trucks would be "accessory uses" to an existing business and would not be allowed on vacant parcels in town.
The regulations also address parking (at least five spots); noise ordinance compliance; and signage.
What isn't allowed are temporary, "tent-like" structures and advertisements on any table umbrellas, he told the PZC.
The regulations also address issues such as sight lines and hours of operation.
New, pro-food truck regulations drew minimal input from a public hearing, with one food truck owner speaking out in support of the new rules.
Letters of support were submitted by the Capital Region Council of Governments and the Farmington Economic Development Commission.
Following closure of the public hearing, the PZC unanimously said yes to food trucks in Farmington.
"Food trucks are in Farmington," Farmington PZC Chairman Scott Halstead said after the vote.
