Infamous Farmington Mansion Back In The Spotlight: Report

Once owned by a famous rapper and a boxing heavyweight, this property is now for sale again, according to a prominent business newspaper.

FARMINGTON, CT — An infamous mansion once owned by famous people appears to be back in the news, with a prominent business publication reporting it is for sale once again.

Built amid the height of mid-1980s luxury in the style of Robin Leach's "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," 50 Poplar Drive, Farmington, is again for sale for $9.9 million, according to the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Aug. 28.

The mansion, now owned by a Florida businessman, has had two famous owners in its 40-year life, specifically, boxing great Mike Tyson and rapper 50 Cent, aka Curtis James Jackson III.

While the mansion has been an on-again, off-again saga in real estate circles, it still boasts some impressive statistics, according to Realtor.com.

Among them:

• 19 bedrooms.

• 19.5 bathrooms.

• 51,657 square feet of space on a 17.6-acre lot.

• An eight-car garage.

According to the WSJ report, the home boasts seven kitchens, a nightclub, a recording studio, and even a casino.

Of course, the primary numbers attached to this property, its asking price, have always had a bizarre and fluctuating history.

For example, 50 Cent's asking price in 2007 was $18.5 million, with the current owner purchasing it in 2019 for $2.9 million, which came at a time when the asking price was nearly $5 million.

In 2020, the owner was pitching the mansion as a rental property for $50,000 a month (not exactly "affordable" housing).

The location was, even, named in a "Moneywise" magazine piece in October 2021 as one of 35 mansions in the U.S. that "just won't sell."

Whether it will now sell for the current, nearly $10 million asking price remains to be seen, though Realtor.com has the property listed with an "estimated value" of $1.582 million.
