Labor Day In Farmington, What's Closed?

Monday, Sept. 1, is Labor Day, with people being treated to one last long weekend of summer.

FARMINGTON, CT — With summer's unofficial end coming this weekend, folks have one more day of relaxation on Monday, Sept. 1, Labor Day.

And, because of that, the Town of Farmington has announced impacts to municipal services due to the holiday. Among them:

• All town offices, including Farmington Town Hall, are closed on the holiday.

The two Farmington Public Library sites (Farmington and Barney) are closed Thursday, Aug. 28, through Monday, Sept. 1.

The libraries are closed Thursday and Friday (Aug. 28-29) due to staff development, and they're closed Saturday, Aug. 30, to Monday, Sept. 1, for the Labor Day weekend.

• All Farmington public schools are closed on Monday, Sept. 1, for the holiday.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September.

It is an "annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers," wrote federal authorities.

"The holiday is rooted in the late 19th century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being," wrote federal officials.
