Mosquitoes Test Positive For Disease In Farmington: State

State and local officials confirmed the outcome this week.

FARMINGTON, CT — As temperatures continue to plunge, the issues posed by mosquitoes will continue to decrease as fall marches toward winter.

But for those days when the blood-sucking bugs are still out there, the state has a warning for folks in Farmington.

That's because the Connecticut Mosquito Management Program has confirmed the first detection of West Nile virus in mosquitoes collected in Farmington this season.

The good news is that no human cases have been reported, and officials said "the risk remains low at this time."

• Use EPA-registered mosquito repellents (like DEET or Picaridin)

• Wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors

• Check window screens and remove standing water around your home
