Pink Alert: Two Dozen Farmington Flamingos Reported Missing

Farmington's Project Graduation Committee is looking for 24 missing plastic flamingo from its flocking fundraiser.

Two flocks of Project Graduation plastic flamingos are missing and the event committee is asking for your help to find them.

If the 24 flamingos are not returned, the committee will need to use some of the money raised to buy replacements, Project Graduation volunteer Joanne Paiano wrote in an email to Patch.

Flamingo flocking is one way Farmington Project Graduation parent volunteers raise money for a safe, substance free post-graduation party put on every year for Farmington High School seniors.

"Volunteers move the flamingos from yard to yard and the family that is ‘flocked’ is asked to donate $25 to the cause," Paiano said.

Flocking is a popular Project Graduation fundraiser in area towns. Avon High School also recently experienced the disappearance of flamingos from its flocking fundraiser. After the high school administration sent an email to parents asking that the flamingos be returned to a bin in front of the school, no questions asked, all missing flamingos reappeared. Flocking has resumed in Avon as planned, Avon Project Graduation volunteer Mardelle Peña confirmed in an email to Patch.

Proceeds from flocking and other fundraisers in Farmington and other Project Graduation fundraisers cover the cost of providing "entertainment, refreshments and prizes at the party," Paiano said.

"Anyone in possession of the flamingos is asked to bring them to 15 Morgan Place, Unionville. No questions will be asked," she said.
