Tests Results of Fire Debris Announced by Glastonbury Health Department

There was concern that the debris from the Preferred Display fire contained asbestos.

Tests of debris from the Nov. 11 fire that destroyed a plastics company indicate there isn’t any asbestos in the materials.

In an announcement Wednesday, the Glastonbury Health Department said, “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted testing on the fire debris found on the lawn of a nearby property from the Nov. 11 fire, and they have reported back that the samples were found free of asbestos.”

According to the department, “Testing was performed at the height of the fire, giving a worst-case scenario. These negative results have reassured the Glastonbury Health Department that the debris does not contain asbestos. Residents should feel comfortable removing debris from their land without concern for exposure to asbestos. Any fire-related debris you find can be swept up, collected, and disposed of as you would do with regular trash.”
