Following Recount, Seminara Concedes 8th District Election To Honig

The district includes Norfolk, Hartland, Canton, Simsbury, New Hartford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Granby, Harwinton and Torrington.

8TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT, CT — Nearly two and a half weeks after Election Day, State Sen. Lisa Seminara announced Friday she has conceded the race for the 8th Senate District following a recanvass which occurred over the past week.

In her first term her first term representing the towns of Norfolk, Hartland, Canton, Simsbury, New Hartford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Granby, Harwinton and Torrington, Seminara had initially conceded to Honig, with the Democratic challenger commending his opponent's campaign and accepting the concession.

However, significant issues with tabulators and ballots on Election Day in Torrington, one of the district's larger towns, prompted a recount there, which reduced a nearly 2,000-vote lead for Honig to just over 150, prompting an automatic recount and Seminara withdrawing her concession.

"While I am disheartened by the election's outcome, I again want to reiterate that my heart remains full of gratitude and humility," Seminara said in a written statement. "I am immensely proud of the positive campaign we ran and the values that we represented. We fought hard, fair, and remained laser-focused on the issues important to the people of the 8th District.
