Granby Board of Education Expects To Fall Short $170K
The Board of Ed prepares for another tough budget year.
School Superintendent Alan Addley said he is trying to close a a $170,000 gap in the budget proposal for next year, but he told the Board of Education on Wednesday that he doesn't expect further staff reductions.
Addley is preparing his "Plus One," a preliminary abstract of the 2012 school budget, which will be distributed to the school board before the end of the year. The final budget proposal won't be presented until March 2011.
Another budgeting factor is the level of federal and state funding. "We also assume that in only having 170K short that the state funding will be exactly the same as it is this year," board member Harry Traver said.

Board members agreed to look at other ways to bridge the gap before considering staff cuts. "We've already over the years reduced the administrative faculty. Everybody. -- secretaries, teaching assistants, staff, teaching staff -- everybody's been hit at this point," Addley said.
One possibility that Addley mentioned is renegotiating contracts. "If we can realize some of that in savings with contracts, if we can renegotiate some contracts ... " he said.

"Right now I'm not sure how I'm going to get down from $170K," he said.
