Granby Community Television Expands Schedule, Offers Many Services

The local television station for Granby, East Granby and Hartland residents will now broadcast for 24 hours each day. Learn more about GCVT in this story.

Granby, East Granby and Hartland now have a local 24-hour local television station, as is expanding to a constant broadcasting schedule.

The decision, announced Monday, was made due to a significant increase in the amount of programming made for and produced by the station. GCTV provides video coverage of town government meetings, area events and an array of television programs produced by local residents.

The non-profit, tax-exempt station is staffed entirely by volunteers and is known for its local coverage. The station has produced more than 1,000 hours of meeting and event recordings since 2006 and more than 1,000 total local programs since 1990. There is also a selection of local history and reflection shows, music and performances, programs produced by individuals on a variety of topics, select shows produced by Central Connecticut State University, high school sports, one-off specials and more. The program schedule is available here.

“The increase in programming dictates a need for longer hours,” said Mark Bombard, GCTV station manager. “These are exciting times at GCTV, and along with our website, we want to ensure the community has full access to all our programming.”

Besides its broadcast presence (channel 16 on Cox cable television in the area), GCTV hosts the majority of its programming online. The streaming web content allows those without cable, including satellite television users, in the three towns as well as people across the world to view GCTV shows.

GCTV advises local residents that accessing its broadcast station on Cox Cable has become more complicated for some viewers. While Cox customers with cable boxes are immediately able to view the station, those with digital televisions but lacking cable boxes need to call the cable company at 1-877-903-7912 to receive instructions on accessing GCTV.
