Granby Farmers' Market Has Big Beginning
The first farmers' market at the Farmington Valley YMCA saw a steady steam of customers Tuesday afternoon.
Vendors did a brisk business at the first-ever Granby Farmers' Market held at the . Customers visited the booths and picked up fruits, vegetables, flowers, meats, ice cream and much more Tuesday afternoon.
Clark Farms sold out of blueberries and strawberries only a half hour after the market opened and many other booths reported strong sales. Alicia Newton, the marker manager, was pleased with the market's first showing as well.
"It's going great," she said, noting that several hundred visitors had already attended the market.

The Granby Farmers' Market opens every Tuesday through September 11 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Roughly a dozen vendors will fill the tents at each market, with some rotation among the farms and especially at the market's business tent.
The Granby Farmers' Market is part of the YMCA's dedication to help implement healthier eating amongst the local community. As part of that mission, the market offers healthy recipies to visitors as well as on its website.

Clarification: Thanks to reader Lenny DeGray, The Granbys Patch found out that while this is the first farmers' market in Granby in decades, it is not the first farmers' market to be held in Granby. A farmers' market previously ran at the old Granby Memorial High School some decades ago.
