Granby Football Car Wash Raises More Than $1,100 for Team Operations

The Granby Bears football team worked hard to raise money for their team by washing cars at Family Hardware.

From Sandy Field of the Granby High School Football Supporters Board

On Saturday, Aug. 18, the weather looked a little menacing for the fifth annual football team car wash, but happily the skies cleared and the scrubbing began! Almost $1,100 was raised, as well as $150 towards the 2012 GHSFS raffle, and we’d like to thank all the people in the community for their support.

We would especially like to thank Barker Torrey and Peter Juszcznski for once again allowing us to set up our car wash at in the Geisslers Plaza. Family Hardware provided the space and materials, as well as donating hot dogs and soda. Thanks also to the team, who, after a very early morning practice, washed and dried cars for more than four hours and thanks to the parents who helped supervise, cook and collect donations.

The Granby High School Football Supporters Board and new head coach, Rich Gadoury, continue to work hard with the goal of making Granby High School football a fun experience for our team and our town!

“We have a young, eager team that is ready to prove themselves as a formidable team in our conference,” Coach Gadoury said about the coming season. “The young men are starting to bond and become as one. Once they work together on and off the field, as they did today, it will only bring them closer to achieving all the goals we set out to achieve this season.“

Come check out our games at Ahrens Field! Mark your calendar for our first home game, Saturday, Sept. 29 vs. Suffield/Windsor Locks at 2 p.m. Our entire schedule is available on our website: www.granbyfootball.com.

Granby football is fully funded by the Supporters and players, so events such as the car wash are crucial to the success of the program. The players are selling raffle tickets for $5 each for a chance at three prizes – a $1,000, a $500 and a $250 American Express gift card. The drawing will take place at the Homecoming game on October 20, 2012 during halftime. Game time is at noon.

The boys will also be selling gold cards for $20, offering discounts at many local businesses, so keep your eyes open for them as well. On a different note, there will be a second fundraiser at the Hooker Brewery on Saturday, Sept. 29, where $25 allows you to sample the Hooker Brewery varieties for three hours, while having a great night out with friends.

We look forward to seeing you at our events and at Ahrens Field. Thank you in advance for your continued support!
