Born and raised in Granby, Stenhouse has danced since she was four years old. That activity brought with it a curiosity in the function of the human body.
"I was always interested in the way the body moves and works," she said.
After hearing a radio ad for a massage school, Stenhouse realized she had a way to develop that interest into a career. She signed up, completed the course work and became an LMT.
Stenhouse started slow, operating out of a single room and relying on word of mouth to grow her business. She has operated Anew Massage and Wellness for about four years, spending the previous two years in a single room at the business' current location at 15R Hartford Ave.
"It was just me," Stenhouse said of Anew Massage and Wellness' previous incarnation.
The LMTs at the business have diverse specialties ranging from pre-natal and post-natal massage to deep tissue, Swedish, Thai and sports massage. The business also now offers couples’ massage, thanks to its expanded suite of rooms. Visits by small groups of customers are popular; with one visitor getting a massage while the other gets a facial and then switching, for example.
Besides the work done at the business’ physical location, the LMTs have offered massage services at Granby Village Health and Lost Acres Orchard, among other local businesses. Stenhouse has also worked with Cirque du Soliel when that performing troupe is in the area and was backstage at the Warped Tour in Hartford on Sunday, providing massage therapy for many of the performers at the multi-band show.
