Granby Superintendent Says "All Systems Go" for Students' Return

The Granby Board of Education moved swiftly through its meeting Wednesday night, the first of two such gathering in the next eight days.

Financial statements, policy considerations and professional development were among the topics discussed. Additionally, Superintendent Alan Addley sounded enthusiastic when he said the district is ready for the first day of school on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

“All systems are go,” he said. “We’re ready to receive the kids.”

Among business manager Harry Traver’s report, he noted that the school system was able to return almost $121,000 to town coffers as of the final financial year 2011-2012 report.

A review of two district policies occurred as well. The board will review the district’s administration of medication policy at its next meeting on Sept. 5. The slightly revised educational support personnel policy, with a change concerning staff reduction and recall, was approved.

Increased attendance at professional development events was a major topic, as the board members discussed how to more deeply involve themselves with those development opportunities.

Work on new athletic fields was another topic, as a bid package for renovations, leveling, and facilities construction is being put together. The board expects to see those bids return in October, with actual work set to begin after the conclusion of fall sports.
