Selectmen Detail $80,000 in Budget Cuts Under New 2013-2014 Proposal

Prior to Monday night's public hearing on the revised 2013-2014 budget, Granby selectmen met to vote on where to trim its budget by $80,000.

That was the amount the Board of Finance reduced the town-side spending plan by after the proposal was defeated at referendum.

Among the cuts was some $31,000 in savings by delaying the hiring of a new detective/Youth officer until November.

First Selectman John Adams said there is still support for the position.

"it is a vital position in our police department," he said.

Also among the changes was taking out $12,000 in libraries funding, which was proposed to restore hours cut in the 2010 budget.

Other savings included a $10,000 cut to police overtime and $10,000 from contingency. See the attached image for a full list as well..

Adams said cuts in hours for various departments could impact services and result in some closings during vacations, illness and lunch breaks.
