Winter Culture, Gifts Of Love, And Patch Social Media

Saturday Feb. 12, 2011

Today is Saturday Feb. 12, 2011 and there are 322 days left in the year.  Increasing clouds early in the day could bring some snow showers this afternoon.  Snow accumulation will most likely be insignificant.  Temperatures will reach a high of 36 degrees today.  There's more snow on the horizon for Sunday and Monday, check back on The Granbys Patch for daily weather updates.

If you're feeling generous this morning you could swing down across the town line into Simsbury and help Gifts of Love celebrate the purchase of its new box truck with a "Stuff the Truck" Food Drive. Volunteers will be in front of Fitzgerald's Foods in Simsbury from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. today.  Cash donations are also accepted.

Take in some art culture tonight and check out a West Hartford photographer's opening in Canton.  The opening reception of a show featuring close-up, black and white images of roses by photographer Christina Boyson will be held at the Gallery on the Green in Canton. The exhibition will run from through March 13, 2011. Gallery hours are Friday to Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.   The opening reception will be tonight from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

If you'd like to continue your cultural evening, we'd recommend hopping over the mountain and going to the University of West Hartford.  The Hartt Schoool will present a Trombone Quartet Panorama in Berkman Recital Hall. A presentation of musical styles from the works of Josquin, on sackbuts (the modern trombone's precursor) to repertoire representing more recent trends in musical composition. Admission is free but seating is limited.  The event begins at 8 p.m.
