GREENWICH, CT — Two 16-year-olds in a stolen Jeep were arrested Sunday after a brief pursuit on I-95 in Greenwich, according to police, who used tire spikes to stop the vehicle.
On July 27 at approximately 1:28 p.m., the Greenwich Police Department was notified of a recently stolen black Jeep Cherokee out of Stamford, the GPD said in an announcement Monday afternoon.
Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin told Patch the Jeep, a 2023 model, was stolen from the 800 block of Hope Street around 1 p.m. that day.

The Jeep was spotted by Stamford police on East Main Street but it failed to stop and entered I-95 southbound, Conklin said, noting a pursuit was called off.
Greenwich police officers were positioned at various locations along the highway to intercept the vehicle, according to Greenwich police, who successfully deployed a tire deflation device in the area of Exit 4 in Cos Cob.

"Officers monitored the vehicle’s movement as it slowed due to the damage. The driver eventually brought the vehicle to a stop on I-95 without further incident. Both occupants fled on foot across the northbound lanes," Greenwich police said.
Officers quickly apprehended the passenger, Greenwich police said, and the driver was found hiding under a truck that was stopped in traffic.
The two teens, who are both from Stamford, were taken to Stamford Police Headquarters where they were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and interfering with police, Conklin said.
"The Greenwich Police Department commends the coordinated efforts of all officers involved, as well as the cooperation between agencies that led to a safe resolution," Greenwich police said.
The Jeep was later returned to its owner, according to Conklin.
