GREENWICH, CT — It's election day in Greenwich, and residents are hitting the polls to make their voices heard, and according to Republican Registrar of Voters Fred DeCaro III, turnout is similar to 2023.

Two years ago, Greenwich had a municipal election turnout of about 51 percent, which was up from 40 percent in 2021.

"With early voting added in, we're on a similar pace to 2023, but not necessarily significantly higher, just roughly the same," DeCaro told Patch Tuesday afternoon, noting operations are "going well" around town.

"People sometimes do not understand where to write in, so they need to make sure they put it in the correct race on the ballot," DeCaro said. "Sometimes they're not putting it in the right spot, and then their ballot is getting rejected because it shows as an over-vote, in which case they have the option to correct their ballot."

Residents had the chance to vote before the scheduled election day during the early voting period, which ran for two weeks.

According to DeCaro, there were 4,289 early voters in Greenwich. In the 2024 presidential election, Greenwich had 12,239 early voters.

DeCaro said unofficial results for the "marquee" races will be complete tonight. The counting of write-in votes will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m., DeCaro added. Write-in candidates will have their full totals at some point Wednesday.

The unofficial results tonight will include absentee ballots. DeCaro noted there were 1,125 absentee ballots issued, and the town is expecting to receive around 1,000 of them.
