From Red Cross Greenwich: Enclosed is the flyer announcing the 2017 Safety Town Program. Please distribute the enclosed flyers to the parents of your students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2017. Safety Town, hosted by the Metro New York North Chapter of the American Red Cross is a dynamic and interactive week in which the children learn from experts how to be safe in any situation. The program takes place at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center (90 Harding Road, Old Greenwich, CT) utilizing the gym, classrooms and outdoors. The children learn about car and pedestrian safety on a tarp displaying a town complete with wooden buildings, streets, crosswalks, stop signs, and parking spaces. Each child has a turn as a pedestrian or a driver in a peddle car.

During the week Safety Town is visited by a Police officer who teaches the children about all aspects of personal safety. All the children are fitted with a Bike Helmet which they wear during the week at Safety Town and take home at the conclusion of the program. The Fire Department brings a truck onsite allowing the children to explore the truck and learn about fire safety.

An Animal Control officer talks about being safe around pets and other animals they may encounter. GEMS (Greenwich Emergency Medical Service), allows the children to tour an ambulance where they learn about the lifesaving equipment and how to call 911 in an emergency. The School Bus Company brings a vehicle on site to demonstrate bus safety and the rules of riding on a bus.
