Award-Winning Writers -- Sacred Heart Greenwich Students Honored for their Work
Two dozen students have won Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Twenty-four Middle and Upper School writers at Sacred Heart Greenwich have earned gold, silver and honorable mention awards from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s longest running and most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens.
The winners will be honored on Sunday at a regional awards ceremony at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
The four Middle School students who won Gold Key awards will have their pieces automatically entered in the national contest, and that awards ceremony will be on June 2 in New York City.

Middle School English teacher Marc Maier said in a statement, “These four students and all of our Middle School Scholastic Writing Award recipients achieved this recognition through hard work and perseverance across six weeks of intense workshop classes. While most of the students won their awards in poetry, three of them won in the prose categories of short story and personal essay/memoir.”
The Gold Key Award winners are:
- Charlotte Brauer, a seventh-grader, from Greenwich.
- Sophia Georgas, an eighth-grader, from Greenwich.
- Catherine O’Shea, a seventh-grader, from Rye, NY.
- Chiara Schmidt, an eighth-grader, from Greenwich.
The Middle School also announced eight Silver Medals were won by:
- Rachael Ali (two Silver Medals), eighth grade
- Sofia Fonti, seventh grade
- Sydney Kim, eighth grade
- Fiona Lewis, seventh grade
- Carolina Oxenstierna (two Silver Medals), seventh grade
- Ursula Wise, seventh grade.
Nine Middle School students received Honorable Mention awards:
- Sasha Childs, seventh grade
- Sofia Fonti, seventh grade
- Piper Gilbert, seventh grade
- Francisca Iraola, seventh grade
- Mary Clare Marshall, seventh grade
- Shay Newman, (two Honorable Mentions), seventh grade
- Claudia Schmidt, seventh grade
- Ursula Wise, seventh grade
- Elizabeth Yeager, seventh grade.
The Upper School students who won awards in poetry, journalism, personal essays and short stories:
- Fiona Cahill, junior, Honorable Mention, poetry.
- Kate Gerstner, junior, Honorable Mention, poetry.
- Morgan Johnson, junior, Silver Medal and Honorable Mention for journalism.
- Sinéad McGovern, junior, Honorable Mention, personal essay.
- Aggie Ryan, senior, Silver Medal, short story.
- Christina Weiler, junior, Honorable Mentions for poetry and short story.
