BREAKING: 2 Greenwich Homes Burglarized; Car Stolen

Greenwich Police say the mid-country break-ins and theft occurred late Saturday.

Greenwich Police remain at the scenes of two mid-country homes Sunday as they investigate the late night burglaries of the residences.

Police also said that on Sunday morning an SUV also was reported stolen from another home in the area.

It was shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday when a Greenwich family returned home on Pheasant Lane and found that their home had been broken into and burglarized. Police secured the residence, and “it became evident that the suspect(s) had most likely been interrupted in the commission of a burglary and possibly were still in the area,” police said in a statement issued late Sunday morning.

“Additional units were detailed flooding the area with patrol personnel both on foot and in vehicles. Four K9 Officers from surrounding jurisdictions (New Canaan PD, MTA Police, Connecticut State Police, and Westchester County PD) joined the search, as well as a helicopter unit from Westchester County PD,” police said.

It was during a house-to-house search, that Greenwich Police discovered a second home that had been burglarized on Rockwood Lane Spur, which backs up to the Pheasant Lane home that was burglarized, police said.

On Sunday morning, another resident on Rockwood Lane reported that their 2007 Denali SUV — which was unlocked with the keys inside — had been stolen from the driveway during the overnight. “This theft occurred a short distance from the two burglarized homes,” police said. Using the “On-Star” device in the vehicle, police were able to track to Long Island, NY where it had been abandoned, police said. The vehicle was successfully recovered by a local NY police department, which was not immediately identified.

Police said, “The suspects have thus far eluded capture, but Greenwich Detectives who have continued to work these open investigations have developed several solid leads. Additional patrols officers remain in the area and remain watchful.”

Police are advising residents to “Please remember to lock your doors, activate your alarms, make your home look lived-in and active. Lock your car door and remove the keys always no matter where you are parked.”
