UPDATE: 3 Residents Displaced by Old Greenwich Blaze
The cause of the fire that heavily damaged the home early Friday remains under investigation.

The cause of the fire that heavily damaged an Old Greenwich home and displaced three residents remains under investigation.
The owners of the two-family home at 18 Tait Rd. discovered the fire on the exterior of the home when they were awakened by noise created by falling debris about 4:35 a.m. Friday, according to Chris Moynahan, the Greenwich deputy fire marshal handling the investigation.

The owners called 911 and a tenant who rented an apartment in the rear of the second-floor was awakened by a smoke alarm, Moynahan said. All three escaped unharmed the two-and-a-half story, two-family home that is more than 100 years old, according to Moynahan.
Four engine companies, along with ladder and utility trucks were dispatched. Fire crews remained on the scene until 2:20 p.m. while Moynahan conducted his investigation.

“The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation,” Moynahan said. “There was fire damage on all three levels. There is heavy external damage and pretty severe internal damage.”

Firefighters remain at the scene of an early Friday morning fire that damaged a home in Old Greenwich.
The fire was reported about 4:45 a.m. at 18 Tait Rd., according to the Greenwich Fire Department.
The department said on Twitter, “No injuries at fire, heavy damage to house. Numerous units on scene.”
The department also said, “Heavy fire on arrival from a large house.”
Tait Road is off Shore Road, near Ford Lane.
