Greenwich Man Steals Car, Tries to Sell It: Police

The suspect is accused of swiping a car from a driveway and then trying to sell it for $10,000.

A Greenwich man is facing a larceny charge in connection with the theft of a car left parked in a local driveway and then trying to sell it for $10,000 hours later, according to Greenwich Police.

The suspect is accused of stealing a Subaru Legacy from the driveway of a Hickory Drive home overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to a police report. The owners, who left the keys inside the car, reported it stolen about 7 a.m. Jan. 13.

Later that day a “cooperating source contacted the Greenwich Police Narcotics Section (with) information about a stolen vehicle,” according to the report.

That source agreed to act “in an undercover capacity, to negotiate with a suspect who was in possession of a stolen Subaru that he was seeking to sell” and undercover detectives negotiated with the suspect “who sought to make $10,000 for the sale of the stolen Subaru,” according to the report.

Detectives met at a prearranged location in town and arrested the suspect identified as Wade P. Curley, 24, of 6 Benders Dr.

Curley was charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief and possession of marijuana. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 20 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
