Greenwich Police Mourn Death Of Decorated Marine Technician Officer
"He leaves behind a department and a community that are better because of his decades of faithful work," Greenwich police said.
GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the death of retired Marine Technician Calvin Darula. He was 94 years old.
Darula began his career with the GPD on Feb. 1, 1955, and he retired on Jan. 1, 1987.
A Greenwich native, Darula attended Greenwich Public Schools before entering the United States Army and serving from April 1952 to April 1954, the Greenwich Police Chief's Office said in a memo sent to department personnel on Monday.

Darula started in patrol with the GPD and quickly earned a reputation for professionalism, diligence, and compassion in his work with the public, the GPD said. He later moved into the role of marine technician, a position he served with distinction in until his retirement.
Throughout his career, Darula earned multiple commendations for excellence in police service, the GPD said. His personnel file also contains numerous letters of "thanks" from the citizens he helped, "a testament to the respect he earned and the lasting impact he made on the community."

A mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Sacred Heart Church in Byram, followed by a celebration of life reception at the Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club.
