Is the nominee considered an “essential worker”?:
Yes

What does the nominee do for work?:
Chief of Staff, Army Corps of Engineers

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
Matt has been working seven days a week for the past two and a half months organizing the Army Corps of Engineers effort to create facilities with additional hospital beds in New York City, Westchester and Long Island. His team has created a plan that is being shared across the nation, more details of which can be found at www.militarytimes.com and www.defense.gov.

This is not what he was trained to do, but when given the assignment he quickly called on resources to get up to speed with on ways to create hospital spaces that are safe and could be attended to by physicians for critical care. Now that we are seeing the number of cases plateau we didn't have patients without beds in these hot spots, where without the Army Corps of Engineers quick and strategic reaction to this crisis things could have played out very differently.

Matt is incredibly humble and does not see what he has done as heroic, but watching him through this process it has been an honor to watch it all come together. All while we also have three elementary aged kids doing distance learning. He has taken every precaution to keep us safe, while he works so hard to make sure those who are sick have the opportunity to heal and not infect others. He has spent the last few weeks honoring and recognizing those on his team who worked on these efforts, I think it would be nice for him to be recognized too.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
Matt may look like your average person in town, but he has played a vital role during this crisis helping to protect our tri-state area.
