The Landmark La Bretagne Restaurant Closes
The owners of the popular French restaurant on the Stamford - Old Greenwich border have retired after 40 years in business.

STAMFORD, CT - La Bretagne, the venerable restaurant on the Stamford - Old Greenwich border that served classic French delicacies such as coquille St. Jacques, veal cordon bleu, coq au vin and seafood crepes, has closed.
After 40 years, owners Jean and Michelle Daniel quietly shuttered the restaurant at 2010 W. Main St. earlier this month.
In an announcement posted March 3 on the La Bretagne French Restaurant Facebook page, the Daniels wrote:
"We would like to thank all our loyal customers for making La Bretagne Restaurant a success for 40 years. There comes a time when everything must come to an end so we have quietly closed the restaurant. Jean and Michelle have retired. We hope you all understand our decision to go quietly. Thank you again.
Be Well

On Saturday, gone were the familiar black-and-white shields that adorned the building entrance.

Many La Bretagne patrons lamented the closure on the restaurant's Facebook page.
Douglas Imhoff wrote, "For so many decades...the best restaurant in Stamford...God I'll miss La Bretagne. Sacre blu!!!"
Barbara Rosett posted, "Thank you for 40 years of splendid food and service. We were so very sorry to learn you have left the restaurant scene and will miss you both and our favorite restaurant."
Another patron wrote, "By closing quietly you saved yourselves from a night of "us" giving you all toasts, standing ovations and shouts out of "Bravo" with tear stained faces. But I hope you all can still feel the affection and gratitude!! Your service was pure art."
According to The Advocate, the Daniels have sold the building for $1.7 million to CJS Properties.
