A 'School Full of Readers' at North Mianus

Nearly 100 volunteers participated in the annual program, including local officials.

Nearly 100 Greenwich officials, town residents including retired teachers and grandparents, and professionals went back to school on Friday.

And it was all for a good cause.

Greenwich Fire Chief Peter Siecienski and Assistant Chief Robert Kick, state Rep. Fred Camillo, Selectman Drew Marzullo and this Patch editor were among the 92 folks invited to participate in the North Mianus School’s annual School Full of Readers program.

Since the tradition began in 2004, about 1,000 volunteer readers have come to the school to read books to students, according to North Mianus Media Assistant Sue Belmonte.

“Always fun to read to the students at North Mianus School,” Camillo said on his Facebook page.

The students in Maria Mata’s fourth-grade class certainly were an attentive group. And they were eager to read along with me, Alison Jackson’s popular Thanksgiving story ‘I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie.’

There were plenty of parent volunteers to greet the readers and to take photos. Thanks to Nora Parry for taking photos of Ms. Mata’s class.
