Strengthening Confidence through Boxing at the YMCA of Greenwich
The YMCA of Greenwich Announces its 2024-25 Lineup of Winter Session Programs

[GREENWICH, CT/OCTOBER 16, 2024] – This winter, the YMCA of Greenwich invites the community to lace up their gloves and step into the ring with Non-Contact Boxing for teens and Box & Burn for adults. Both boxing programs are led by longtime instructor and trainer Brian Dowd and will be held during the ten-week-long winter program session from November 11th, 2024, through January 26th, 2025. Registration for all winter session programs at the YMCA of Greenwich is now open to the community - members and non-members alike.
Non-Contact Boxing offers teens an engaging and supportive environment to master basic boxing techniques and self-defense while building strength, endurance, and confidence. For adults, Box & Burn also emphasizes foundational boxing skills, incorporating offensive and defensive drills with an additional focus on footwork. Both programs use various training methods, including mitts, pads, speed bags, partner drills, and heavy bags. Non-Contact Boxing is included with a YMCA membership, while Box & Burn classes are available for individual purchase through Active Net.
Leading these programs is Brian Dowd, a dedicated personal trainer and coach with a passion that began during his youth as an amateur boxer with the Bronx Police Athletic League. Dowd’s expertise has been honed through years of experience, including certification as a boxing coach with USA Boxing Metro. He has trained four NY Daily News Golden Glove champions and numerous successful amateur boxers. As a father, Dowd enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for boxing and strength training with his son and looks forward to extending this passion to the Greenwich community.
