Student Threatened To 'Columbine' Greenwich Special Education Program, Police Say

The student was arrested and charged with second-degree threatening a school, a Class D felony, according to police.

GREENWICH, CT — An 18-year-old Greenwich student who was arrested late last month threatened to "Columbine" a special education program, according to police.

Duglas Alcaide was arrested on Oct. 27 after making a verbal threat toward students and staff within the Community Connections Program in Greenwich, police said at the time. Alcaide was charged with second-degree threatening a school, a Class D felony.

"The Community Connections staff immediately followed district safety protocols by contacting mental health providers, school security, and the student’s family. Due to the nature of the statement, the Greenwich Police Department was promptly notified," police said following the arrest.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Oct. 27, officers responded to the program on East Elm Street.

"Investigation revealed that the arrestee threatened to 'Columbine' the school, referring to the Columbine High School massacre of 1999," police said in Alcaide's arrest report.

In coordination with Greenwich Public Schools officials, police conducted a threat assessment and determined that the threat was not credible, according to police. As a precaution, the majority of students were safely dismissed from the building while the assessment was completed.

The Community Connections Program is under the umbrella of the Special Education Program in Greenwich Public Schools.

The CT Judicial Branch website shows Alcaide is released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 25.
