'Bordeaux Bandit' Returns to Groton to Face Charges

Rhode Island resident Scott DeLuca allegedly stole a bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus wine from the Mystic Marriott, valued at $4,800.

A $4,800 bottle of wine went missing from the Octagon Restaurant at the Mystic Marriott on Oct. 19, 2015. Groton Town Police began investigating thetheft of 1990 Chateau Petrus wine and determined that the suspect allegedly used a ruse to gain access to the wine storage area.

"The investigation revealed similar incidents in New York and New Jersey, as well as Connecticut," according to Lt. John W. Varone, detective commander with the Groton Town Police Department. "The investigation identified the suspect in all these crimes as Scott DeLuca, age 24, of 71 Brewster St., Pawtucket, R.I."

On Oct. 22, 2015, the Town of Groton Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for DeLuca. On Thursday, Jan. 7, Deluca was taken into custody in Rhode Island on charges that included being a fugitive from Connecticut.

On Friday, April 1, Deluca was presented in the Kent County District Court, in Warwick, R.I., where he waived extradition. Groton Town Police Detectives then took DeLuca into custody. He was transported back to Groton and formally charged for larceny in the third degree.

DeLuca is being held on a $10,000 bond. He still faces warrants from other Connecticut police departments.

"The Groton Town Police would like to thank the many law enforcement agencies throughout the Northeast, including New York and New Jersey, for assistance in the investigation, as well as the many social media followers who helped identify DeLuca and connect him to the various criminal acts," Varone said.
