Daily Five: Mild Winter Pays Off At Groton Golf Course

Five Things To Know Monday, Feb. 13

1.  Today is Monday, Feb. 13.  The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies, a high temperature of 39 degrees and a breeze of 14 to 20 mph. Clouds will increase tonight and the low will fall to 25 degrees.

2.  took in $53,135 during December and January, more than three times the amount collected last winter, according to a report by the town manager. The golf course brought in $16,826 during December 2010 and January 2011, but has been busy due to the mild weather.

3.  Kelly Crandall, an investigator for Groton Town Police, has been chosen as 2011 Office of the Year in the area of community service by the Connecticut Association of Women Police. Crandall was nominated for her work including her service with D.A.R.E., Safe Kids and the National Night Out program.  She will be honored at the police association's annual event on March 22 in Farmington.

4.  The spring and summer edition of "Discover," which outlines programs offered by the town Department of Parks and Recreation, is finalized and will be mailed to residents later this month.  The department has also finalized the schedule for the Summer SoundWaves Concert Series for 2012.

5.  The Groton Public Library if you have a little one. The program is designed for children ages 1 to 3, siblings are welcome, and there's no registration required. Just stop in.
