Daily Five: Fairview Granted Special Permit For Expansion

Five Things To Know Friday, March 2

1.  Today is Friday, March 2.  The National Weather Service forecasts partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 41 degrees.  There’s a chance of rain and possibly a thunderstorm tonight, and the low will fall to 38 degrees.

2.  The Groton Zoning Commission on Feb. 16 approved a special permit by Fairview filed an application in November to build 197 independent living apartments, 69 cottages and 20 assisted living units for people with memory loss. The development would be built on the 70-acre site along the edge of Military Highway overlooking the Thames River.

3.  Groton is moving forward with . The town will hold an informational session at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 in the Town Hall Annex to talk about common definitions of blight, enforcement and compliance.  Residents will be encouraged to offer suggestions.

4.  The Groton Parks and Recreation Department will hold sign ups at 8 a.m. today for the taught by the lead varsity baseball coach of Fitch High School and his staff.  The clinic, for youth ages 8 to 12, will be held in the late afternoon and early evening on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Fitch Middle School. 5. Bill Memorial Library in Groton City will hold a reception at 4:30 p.m. today to celebrate its 2012 . Nominees were judged on service to the community, creativity in programs and leadership. The Association of Connecticut Library Boards and Friends of Connecticut Libraries partnered with the Connecticut Library Association and State Library to present the award.
