1.  Today is Friday, June 1. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 70 degrees, then rain after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent tonight, and the low will drop to 58 degrees.

2.  The Board of Educaiton will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the school administration building to discuss issues including its vision for the future, the roof work at Fitch High School and the replacement of the boiler at . The board will also discuss and possibly vote on an out-of-state trip to San Antonio, Texas from June 28 to July 3.

3.  The planning department signed off this week on the demolition permit for 276 Packer Road, the dilapidated house at the corner of Packer and Cow Hill roads that was the center of a fight between the town and a local preservation society.

Groton took the Burnett’s Corners Preservation Society, Inc., to court in November, 2011, . The town said the building was in “imminent danger of failure or collapse", and the court found in favor of the town.

4. Today is National Donut Day, which means a free donut with a beverage purchase at Dunkin Donuts. So when you swing by for your morning coffee, you’ll get a treat to make Friday even better.
