Daily Five: Middle School Celebrates Last Eighth Grade Graduation This Week

Five Things To Know Tuesday, June 12.

1.  Today is Tuesday, June 12.  The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 66 degrees and a chance of showers, mainly after 4 p.m. It’ll be cloudy tonight, with a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, and a low of 61 degrees.

2.  Groton middle schools hold their eighth grade promotion ceremonies this week and for one school it will be the last such graduation; Fitch closes at the end of the year. The ceremonies at West Side and Cutler Middle schools will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The ceremony is at 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

3.  The Groton School Board meets at 7 p.m. today in the Fitch High School band room and will receive updates on redistricting, middle school consolidation and the asbestos removal project at Mary Morrisson Elementary School. The board is also expected to vote on the curriculums for middle school math, language arts and personal fitness, and the curriculum for elementary school language arts.

4.  Groton adult education will hold its graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the media center of . The program will graduate 45 students this year. Groton adult education serves students ages 17 and older who didn’t complete high school and want to return to earn their diploma.
