Dispute at Poquonock Bridge Fire District Heats Up
The fire board wants to enlist volunteers but the volunteer company will not accept any more applications.

The Poquonnock Bridge Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. will no longer be accepting applications for new volunteers until matters between the fire company and the fire district board are ironed out.
But in an effort to save costs, the fire board is considering closing the fire company’s Fort Hill Station and relocating career firefighters across town to Long Hill Road and form a new volunteer fire company, according to a report in The Day.
The Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department has 28 union firefighters working out of the Fort Hill and Long Hill stations and they haven’t had a volunteer since 2005, according to another report in The Day.
