Electric Boat is building two submarines at once and it's the first time they have been this busy in a decade.

This is the first time in 10 years that the shipyard is building two submarines at once.
The North Dakota, the 11th in the Virginia Class of submarines has been there a and it was joined Tuesday by the forward half of the engine room of the future USS Illinois, the 13th in the Virginia Class, according to a report in The Day.

The Day reporters write that Electric Boat has 600 people working on the Illinois and in 2015, when things are in full swing and 1,000 people are expected to be working on the submarine.

The report says that Navy began buying two subs a year in 2011 and steady workflow will catch up to the final assembly and testing phases in Groton in 2015.
