Firefighters Free Child Stuck In Tree

A 6-year-old Groton girl had to be rescued by firefighters Tuesday evening after her foot became wedged between two branches of a tree.

Christopher Zendan, spokesman for Naval Submarine Base New London, said the call from 250 Burningtree Drive call came in at about 6 p.m. The child’s foot was stuck in the notch where the branches meet, he said.

“She was at ground level, so I’m not sure if she was climbing up the tree or down the tree,” Zendan said.

Rescue workers from the Submarine Base Fire Department used a tool typically used to separate car doors during accidents, to move the branches and free the child.

She was taken by Groton Ambulance to a nearby medical facility, Zendan said.

Her condition was not immediately available.
