Five Things To Know Today

Groton Utilities, Three Appointments And The Schooners

1.  Today is Tuesday, June 28.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high temperature of 76 degrees and clouds tonight. There’s a chance of rain and thunderstorms this evening, and the temperature will drop to a low of 63 degrees.

2.  The Groton City Council will request a meeting with Groton Public Utilities on July 25 to discuss a proposed recreational trail from Bluff Point to Preston Community Park. The 14-mile trail would provide space for hiking, biking and horseback riding, and some of the land is owned by Groton Public Utilities. The utility would have to give permission for the trail to pass through its property. Mayor Marian Galbraith suggested the council ask the utility for a briefing on potential issues before hearing from the trail committee.

3.  The Groton City Council committee of the whole approved three appointments Monday night. The committee voted to reappoint Barbara Gerrish to another term on the Ledge Light Health District, Mary Johnson to a term as alternate member of the Eastern Point Historic District Commission and David Torgerson as a regular member of the Eastern Point Historic District Commission.
