The Avery Point Lighthouse, A $2.7 Million Bond Ordinance And Tax Bills

1. Today is Wednesday, July 6. The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert, and predicts sunny skies with a high temperature of 81 degrees. The low will drop to 67 tonight, and there's a chance of thunderstorms.
2. The Avery Point lighthouse was opened for the first time since September on July 2 and 3, and had 120 visitors. A full-page photo of the lighthouse also made it into this month's issue of Connecticut Magazine.
3. The Groton Town Council on Tuesday approved a $2.7 million bond authorization to make improvements to the town's wastewater treatement facility. The ordinance must now go to Town Meeting, and be returned to the council so a referendum date may be set in September. The town is trying to acquire a grant and low interest loan from the state for the project.

4. Al Klimova, a local restaurant owner, will share some of his vegetarian Mediterranean and Middle Eastern recipes at the Groton Public Library at 6 p.m. today. The event is free and open to the public, and is part of the library's One book, One Region Family Program.
5. Town Manager Mark Oefinger said the town has had a couple of small issues with the vendor handling tax bills, but they should arrive this week. The bills were delivered to post office late Tuesday and residents should start receiving them today, he said. Everyone should have their bill by Thursday.
