1. Today is Thursday, July 7. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 86 degrees and possible thunderstorms this afternoon. The low will dip to 62 degrees tonight.
2. The Noank School Reuse Task Force meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled, but the survey is still open, asking residents to share their thoughts on the best future use of the property. If you haven't filled out the survey, you have until July 29 to do so, and can access it through the town website or by calling (860) 441-6630.
3. The state Department of Environmental Protection is expected to provide Groton a letter saying the improvements to the town's wastewater treatment facility would receive a state grant and low-interest loan. But there is at least one caveat: Groton must put the project out to bid before the September referendum. Since the project must be designed and approved by environmental protection before it can go out to bid, this may prove difficult, town manager Mark Oefinger said.

4. Groton's collegiate baseball team, the Mystic Schooners, play the Sanford Mariners at 6:30 p.m. today at the home field at Fitch High School. As of the July 5 game, the Schooners were 8 wins, 8 losses, but they've lost the last few, so they could use the home field support. Tickets are $5, the Groton Rotary sells food, and the kids will be home in bed by 9 p.m.
5. The Cartells, a popular local band, will play during the free Concerts in The Park series at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Washington Park. The band plays jazz, swing and rhythm and blues, and has been performing for more than 20 years.
