Upcoming Municipal Elections, Power Restoration And Pfizer Revenues

1. Today is Wednesday, Nov. 2. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high temperature of 54 degrees and a low of 39 tonight.
2. Next Tuesday is Groton's municipal election, and voters will choose five board of education members, nine town councilors and 41 members of Representative Town Meeting. The governor’s office has extended the registration deadline until noon on Monday, Nov. 7 due to the storm, to give people more time to register. Councilor Frank O’Beirne, Jr., said he hopes residents sign up to vote but more than that, “I hope you actually come out and vote.”
3. CL&P offered estimates Tuesday of when power would be restored in various communities. The projections for 50 towns in eastern and southwestern Connecticut are available online at www.cl-p.com/stormcenter/estimates. CL&P expected to have estimates for all towns by Wednesday. The utility reported more than 770 line and tree crews working across the state.

4. Pfizer Inc. reported an increase of 7 percent in revenues for the third quarter of 2011, compared to the same quarter last year. The boost was due to growth in operations and favorable currency exchange rates, the company said. Revenues in the United States were reported as $6.9 billion, a drop of 3 percent, while international revenues were listed as $10.3 billion, an increase of 15 percent, the company said.
5. Riverfront Children's Center has started selling holiday wreaths to benefit its tuition scholarship program for needy children. Wreaths are $14 each or $25 for two. The wreaths are brought in from Maine, and are available at the center on Nov. 23 so they can be purchased as Thanksgiving gifts.
