Thames Street, Benefits For Veterans And Parent Teacher Conferences

1.  Today is Tuesday, Oct. 18.  The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies and a high temperature of 64 degrees. The low will drop to 55 tonight, and rain is expected in the early morning hours.

2.  The Town Council will vote tonight on whether to apply for $500,000 in state financial assistance for the final design of rebuilding Thames Street. Last month, the State Bond Commission approved $500,000 for the final phase of the street's reconstruction. The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex.

3.  Veteran benefits counselors will be at the Groton Senior Center at 10 a.m. on Friday to meet with veterans and their spouses to discuss potential available benefits. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Long Term Care Benefits, called Aid and Attendance, pay for assisted living and nursing home care in some instances.

4.  Groton Public Library will have professional genealogists available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday to help people find out more about their family histories. To make a 30-minute appointment with a genealogist through the program "Ancestor Roadshow", call (860) 441-6750.

5.  If you have children in the Groton Public Schools, parent teacher conferences will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, 27 and 28.
