Five Things To Know Today, Sept. 28

The Mystic Education Center, The Summer Food Program And An Upcoming Book Sale

1.  Today is Wednesday, Sept. 28.  The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 70 degrees. There's a chance of showers tonight, and the low will drop to 61.

2.  The state has begun its appraisal of the Mystic Education Center property, Town Manager Mark Oefinger told the Town Council Tuesday. The state notified Groton on Aug. 1 that it would shutter the property in 60 days to save money, and the town has the right of first refusal if it wants to buy it. The appraisal should be available sometime in November, Oefinger said.

3.  The Summer Food Program at Claude Chester Elementary, Washington Park, William Seely and Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School served 2,527 breakfasts and 3,756 lunches in July, according to the department of administrative services monthly report.  The food program served children and teenagers 18 and younger, and was paid for with federal money.
