The tractor trailer accident occurred on the tails of a rough morning, with both directions shut down in the morning due to icy conditions.

6:07 p.m. April 4 Update:

The Connecticut DOT reported that Gold Star Bridge is now reopened after a tractor trailer accident shut down three lanes. The DOT is warning motorists to be careful Monday evening, as road conditions continue to deteriorate.

"Inclement weather such as snow or ice during winter storms may cause numerous accidents to occur on state highways," the DOT officials said. "Most accidents are not reported by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Connecticut State Police due to the unusually high number of incidents. However, reports will be provided on incidents that cause the major highways to be closed for a long period of time. Frequent updates on winter storms and roadway conditions can be obtained by listening or watching the local radio and television stations."

For additional information on road conditions during storms, the Department of Transportation offers information at 860-594-2650.
