Groton Holds Municipal Election Today

Voters will elect 9 town councilors, 5 school board members and 41 members of Representative Town Meeting.

Voters cast ballots today for Board of Education, Town Council and Representative Town Meeting in the Groton municipal election.

Seventeen people are running for 9 seats on the council and seven are running for 5 seats on the school board. Five of the eight district races for RTM are contested.

“People should understand that our local elected officials are the people that make the decisions we live with every day,” said Town Clerk Betsy Moukawsher.  “Whether it be a blight ordinance or school budgets, they make the decisions to fund our every day services.”

“Also, these are our neighbors that are running. These are people. . .volunteering their time to help our community.  And I think it’s a show of support when people come out to vote.”

Polls are open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Groton has eight polling places. Locations are listed below:

3.  City municipal building, 295 Meridian Street.

4. William Seely School, 55 Seely School Drive.

5.  Charles Barnum Elementary School, 68 Briar Hill Road.

6.  School Administration Building, 1300 Flanders Road.

7.  S.B. Butler School, 155 Ocean View Avenue.

8.  Town Hall Annex, 134 Groton Long Point Road.
