Groton Residents Residents Getting Wise to IRS Phone Scams: Police

Have you received a call from these numbers lately: 562-667-2515 and 530-815-0726? Groton Police said these calls are scams.

The Town of Groton Police Department recently received multiple calls from residents reporting suspicious telephone calls from individuals claiming to be with the IRS.

"In these calls, the suspect caller identifies themselves as an 'officer' of the IRS, and claims that you owe taxes," police said. "They demand that the person immediately pay the taxes and even threaten to issue arrest warrants."

In other cases, the caller leaves a voicemail requesting that people call a telephone number. Upon calling back the number, the suspect caller claims that he is with the IRS and demands money, or the person will face arrest.

"We want to remind everyone that this is a common scam that occurs this time of year," police said. "The IRS will not call you or send you emails demanding money."

Two of the telephone numbers involved in the latest scams are 562-667-2515 and 530-815-0726, according to Groton Police.

At least 10 residents have reported these types of calls to police and immediately recognized the scam. The Groton Town Police Department recommends that anyone receiving these calls hang up the phone immediately.
