Lawmaker's $4 Million Home On The Market In Groton

A state senator's historic waterfront mansion and "19th century gentleman's farm" has been listed for sale.

GROTON, CT — State Sen. Heather Somers (R-Groton) has listed her Groton home for sale for $3,950,000.

The historic home has five bedrooms and 4,270 square feet of living space, according to a Realtor.com listing.

"Captain Silas Beebe, shipmaster and ice merchant, created an enduring legacy in this timeless, 19th century gentleman's farm with 524' of frontage on Beebe Cove," the listing reads. "Extensive renovations ensure the grandeur remains for another two centuries."

Somers said they moved to the home about five years ago.

Asked about why the home is on the market, Somers said, “I am downsizing, and will be staying in the 18th Senate District.”

The home's waterfront grounds include an "impressive" barn, stone walls, mature gardens, specimen trees, and a heated pool. Inside, the home has an eat-in kitchen with a butler's pantry, a formal living room with fireplaces, and a "stately" office. The home, which dates back to 1808, is on a 2.22-acre lot, which also includes a guest house.

Somers, 58, was re-elected to the 18th district senate seat last year. She was first elected to the seat in 2016. She is a chief deputy senate Republican leader and serves as ranking member of the Public Health Committee and the Appropriations Committee, according to her bio. She is a member of the Commerce, Education, and Regulation Review committees as well.

Somers also served for five terms on town council and as mayor in her native Groton.
