Police Say Fitch High School Safe After Report Of Suspicious Package
School Department says package was a gift.

Groton Police evacuated Fitch High School this afternoon after a faculty member reported a suspicious package in the building.
The package turned out to be a gift, according to an automated message to parents by the Groton School Department.
Police Lt. Eric Zbierski declined to discuss specifics about what the package was. He said police were called to the school at about 2:20 p.m. to look into a report of a suspicious package. He said students had left for the day, but police evacuated the remaining 25 people inside.

Groton’s special services division and state police were called in.
“We’ve deemed it to be safe,” Zbierski said. He said it’s unusual to get a call about a suspicious package at a school.
