UPDATE: Water Main Break Closes Portion of Poquonnock Road
It may take until this evening to fix the break and open the road.

A large water main break on Poquonnock Road/Route 1 was reported just around 10 a.m. today and officials have closed off part of that road while Groton Utilities makes repairs. Officials estimate that things will be back to normal this evening, if all goes as planned.
Director of Emergency Management Joe Sastre said that there is plenty of water in the event of a fire and that Groton Utilities has maintained 'drinkable water quality, some areas will or are experiencing some off-coloration of water, similar to what you see when mains are flushed."
Sastre said GU will be testing the water quality continuously and they report their findings to PURA, DPH, etc.

"Again there is no issue with pressure or drinkability, just some discoloration in some areas of their service area," said Sastre.
He also said they expect to be able to repair the main by early evening and once the break is repaired and full water service is back, they will flush their lines to remove the sediment.
