Watch a Sea Lion Paint a Picture at Mystic Aquarium

Experience a behind-the-scenes enrichment activity uniquely designed to help sharpen the mind of Mystic Aquarium's sea lions.
Learn about this fascinating species while a trainer guides Sakari the sea lion through the creation of a one-of-a-kind piece of art. After Sakari is done painting, guests will be guided through a painting session of their own with a TDP Art Studios artist.
The evening begins with an inspirational peek at how one of Mystic Aquarium's animals uses painting as an enrichment activity. Get up-close to this marvelous creature and learn about the species during a private meet-and-greet session.
Guests will be entered into a raffle to win the animal masterpiece created at the start of the event. Enjoy light snacks as an instructor from TDP Art Studios guides each artist through the creation of a beautiful animal-themed painting.
And remember, you're being creative for a cause. A portion of the proceeds from every event ticket sold supports Mystic Aquarium's One Ocean, One Mission initiatives towards conservation, education and research.
Participants must be at least 21 years old.
About Sakari the Sea Lion
Sakari, the California sea lion has found her forever home at Mystic Aquarium after being rescued off a beach in California in 2009. Despite rehabilitation, she was ultimately being deemed non-releasable by the federal government.
"As part of our commitment to enriching the lives of our animals, our Animal Care Team at Mystic Aquarium has taught our California sea lions to paint," according to aquarium staff. " Just like humans, animals benefit from various types of stimuli. Painting can help ensure an enriching and stimulating environment."
