375th Fundraising Off to a Good Start
Guilford 375th Birthday Fundraising kicked off this past weekend with the first in a series of dances. The event was well attended and the team is now gearing up for their next dance May 4, which will feature 'Avenue Groove.'

After much planning, and a lot of hard work, Guilford's 375th Birthday Committee kicked off their fundraising efforts Saturday, March 23 with a dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The event featured local band Eight to the Bar, and was well attended according to Committee Member Ed Bartlett.
"Attendence for the event was around 100 people," Bartlett told Guilford Patch in an email. "We were able to raise funds, and it's a good start."

This dance is the first in a series of planned dances to raise money for the planned activities for Guilford' big birthday next year. Chairperson Veronica Wallace shared at a public meeting earlier this year that the committee estimated it would take anywhere between $150,000-$200,000 to put together the 18 months worth of events the committee has planned. All of those dollars will need to be obtained from fundraising.
The committee is not turning their attention to the next dance, set to take place May 4. This dance will feature Avenue Groove, a dance band from the Hartford area.

"They do shows at the Chowder Pot and J Roos in North Haven," said Bartlett. "So they have a following on the shoreline."
